Last Sunday, Helen Pedley, affectionately known to many as our “Eco Rep,” was officially commissioned into her new role by the Rt Revd Anna Eltringham, Bishop of Ripon, at Ripon Cathedral. Helen is one of 13 newly appointed Eco Mission Enablers who have completed the Gold Saving Creation course and committed to leading environmental missions within the Diocese of Leeds.
In her commissioning, Bishop Anna said, “Between the team they have a wealth of expertise and passion, and in response to God’s call on their lives, they are ready and willing to share this in a variety of ways, including preaching and teaching, to inspire and help others.”
Helen has already been an invaluable force in our church’s green initiatives. From leading the gardening group to transforming our churchyard into a haven for wildlife and people alike, she has introduced initiatives such as the installation of our bug hotel, “No Mow May,” bird boxes, and the beautiful poppy patch.
In her new role, Helen will be sharing her expertise across the Halifax & Calder Deanery. Her mission will encourage churches to enhance churchyard biodiversity and support the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust’s “Team Wilder” programme, promoting environmental stewardship across the Diocese.
Helen asks for prayers for herself and her fellow Eco Mission Enablers as they embark on this important work. For more information on the Eco Mission Enablers and their areas of expertise, visit the Eco Mission Enablers - Diocese of Leeds Anglican
