About Us
Welcome to St. John's Carrington.
We exist to worship God and be a place for our local community. Our aims are:
- To grow and widen our worshipping community.
- To deepen the discipleship of our members.
- To serve our local community.
Below you can read more about who we are, what we believe and what we do. We would love to welcome you.
Church of England As part of the Church of England (in the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham), we have a duty of care to all those within our parish (consisting of Carrington, Mapperley Park and part of Sherwood) and have as much responsibility for those outside our doors as those inside. We would love to welcome you to any of our regular services and get to know you over a cuppa and a chat. If you are interested in having a conversation about a baptism or a wedding then do please get in touch.
Anglo-Catholic We worship in the Anglo-Catholic tradition and as such the Eucharist (also known as Holy Communion or the Mass) is at the heart of our worshipping life. Here we are re-constituted and reformed as the body of Christ before going out in 'peace to love and serve the Lord', all the while knowing that in the week ahead we are continuously formed by the Holy Spirit at work in us.
We celebrate the Eucharist every Sunday at 10am as well as during the week. In worshipping together we aim to grow in faith but also to share our stories: the joys and the difficulties.
An Inclusive Church We are an inclusive church and are part of the Inclusive Church network and as such believe in a church which celebrates and affirms every person and does not discriminate. We welcome all regardless of age, race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality mental health, economic status or physical ability.
We also aim to be a church where those with questions can dip their toe and those with certainty can be nourished and even challenged.
Community We believe strongly in serving our local community and building up the bonds between us. Our community centre plays an important role in serving local groups and is widely used from Zumba to parties, from Pilates to business meetings.
We also host a weekly Community Cafe. This is a completely free cafe taking place every Wednesday between 12pm and 2pm.
Do please let us know if there is anything we can do to serve you.
