A family-friendly service of Holy Communion to celebrate our mothers and all who mother us, with well-known hymns and traditional posies for mums and all carers.

Meet us at 10am at Our Lady of Victories on Halam Road as we process to the Minster for our principal service - friendly donkeys will lead the way! The service includes the story of Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, as well as the Passion Gospel sung in dramatic form.

A unique, unforgettable service of psalms and readings that marks, and even celebrates, Holy Week’s descent into darkness.

We are delighted that our Choral Evensong for Wednesday of Holy Week will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3. Please join us in the Minster for this service - the North Door will open at 2.30pm, and members of the congregation will need to be seated by 2.45pm, after which doors will be closed. The service will be available on BBC Sounds for 30 days.

The first of the three major services of the ‘Sacred Triduum’ (Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and the
Easter Liturgy), which take us deep into the mystery of Holy Week. Following a joyful commemoration of the Last Supper, with the washing of feet recalling Jesus doing the same for his disciples, the mood then changes with the dramatic stripping of the altars. The service ends with Watch, waiting with Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane. For those who wish to stay, the Watch continues until 10.00pm.

An interactive morning for children and families, making use of Jacqui Parkinson’s amazing Threads Through the Bible exhibition. Meet some of the people from the Easter story, who will talk with you about what happened on the first Good Friday. With crafts and refreshments for children. The trail will take about 40 minutes.

The Minster clergy lead us in a series of reflections on figures from the gospel stories of Christ’s Passion, before our devotions culminate in the Liturgy of Good Friday, beginning at 1.30pm.

The lighting of the Easter fire, the proclamation of Easter, the renewal of baptismal vows, and a joy

Our principal Eucharist for Easter Day, with joyful music, and the Bishop of Southwell and Nottingham’s Easter sermon. Following the service, there will be a Blessing of the Easter Garden in the Palace Gardens – and also our ever-popular Easter Egg hunt for children!

We gather to hear Easter readings and music, giving voice to the joy of the Resurrection.

Continuing the season of the Nativity, this service explores the Coming of the Magi, the Baptism of Christ, and the Miracle at the Wedding in Cana. All are welcome to this inspiring service which uses the whole Minster.

The beautiful feast of Candlemas brings the traditional 40 days of Christmas to an end. We begin to look forward to Lent, blessed by the Light of Christ.

Our Cathedral Carol Service follows the traditional pattern of the famous service at King’s College, Cambridge.
As well as hearing choral music sung by the Cathedral Choir, there is the chance to sing well-known Christmas carols in a
joyful and uplifting setting. The journey to Bethlehem, birth of Jesus, adoration of the shepherds and the coming of the Magi are all part of this festive service of readings and music.

This is an extremely popular service and so we ask all guests to be seated by 6pm.

Join us for a Sung Eucharist on Epiphany

A beautiful traditional service beginning to turn the corner from Advent into Christmas. Sung by the Cathedral Choir.

On Christmas Day afternoon, Evening Prayer offers a moment of stillness after the joyful festivities, as well as an opportunity to sing some more carols.

The Crib Services are a joyful opportunity for families to enter the Christmas spirit, with children dressing up as characters from the Christmas story.

The first Eucharist of Christmas, this service is popular the world over. As we gather in the depths of night, we celebrate the dawning of a glorious light in the birth of Christ. Music sung by Southwell Minster Chorale with well-known Christmas hymns.

Our principal Eucharist on Christmas Day includes music sung by the Cathedral Choir, as well as well-known Christmas hymns.

Festal Mattins is sung by the Cathedral Choir, with uplifting music by Stanford and Warlock. Another chance to sing some Christmas hymns, and rejoice in the festive atmosphere of the Minster at Christmas.

The Christingle service is an unmissable milestone for families on the journey to Christmas. All welcome for oranges, candles, and carols.

This atmospheric service begins in darkness, building up to a glorious light as the coming of Jesus is foretold. In word and music, themes of prophecy and expectation come together, pointing the way towards the salvation of the world.
Beautiful music is sung by the Cathedral Choir, whose journey through the building reminds us of our own spiritual journey towards the light of Christ, in anticipation of the glories of Christmas.
