The story of the fall of humanity, the promise of the Messiah, and the birth of Jesus is told in nine short Bible readings interspersed with the singing of Christmas carols, hymns and choir anthems.

Do join us in St Mary's as we celebrate this tradition, everyone is so welcome.

St Mary Magdalene

Welcome to St Mary Magdalene Parish Church; a large, friendly and historic church in the centre of Newark. St Mary's has been welcoming people through its doors for over 800 years, and continues to be a central focus of the local community.

Visit us during our opening hours to pray, reflect, seek God's guidance, or simply to take in the history and heritage of our church.

We hold a range of services every week, from traditional to contemporary, and welcome everyone to come and worship with us. We have a thriving choir community supported by the Magnus Song School, and hold a weekly Sung Eucharist, and a Choral Evensong.

We also hold a large number of events throughout the year, welcoming people from our local community, and from further afield.

St Mary Magdalene (Newark Parish Church) is part of the Parish of Newark St Mary Magdalene with St Leonard (charity 1131972).

Safeguarding

The Parish of Newark-on-Trent St Mary Magdalene with St Leonard is committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and adults. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer(s), PSOs. The Diocese of Southwell & Nottingham’s safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor (DSA) who advise our PSOs. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the DSA. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority Children or Adults Services.
