Toilets

We do not have a car park. There is on street parking available opposite the church on Park Avenue.

Accessible Toilet

Across the road from the church on the outside wall of the Post Office. The code is displayed on the church porch noticeboard.

Level access for wheelchairs through the door on the south side nearest the bottom Lych Gate.
Wheelchair ramps available for the main porch door.

A standard hearing induction loop driven from the church amplifier. All the main areas of the church are covered by microphones.

Assistance dogs are welcome in our church.

Wheelchair access is through the church door nearest the lower gate to the churchyard. The first door on the right.


Our Building

On Wednesday from 11am to 3pm

We have stained glass windows which date from Medieval to 20th century. Call in to see them on Wednesdays from 11am to 2pm.

No post office in the church - there is a post office opposite the church on the other side of the road.


Music and Worship

St Leonard's has a ring of 8 bells hung for change ringing. There is a team of bell ringers who ring them regularly for Sunday services and on a Thursday evening at 7.30pm for practice.
The Tenor is 11cwt - 2qr - 5lb in G.
Access to the first floor ringing room is by a wooden ladder.

We welcome visitors and anyone who would like to learn to ring our church bells.

We do hold occasional concerts and live music during the year. Details are on our website and Facebook pages.

We have an operational pipe organ. Built by T.C.Wilcock of Sheffield.
It has Pedal, Great and Swell with 22 stops.

Every Wednesday from 1pm to 3pm we hold a Wortley Social Afternoon. An opportunity to get together over a cuppa and chat about whatever you like. Occasionally we have guest speakers and demonstrations. It is supported by Barnsley Age Concern UK.

We have a Friends Group "Len's Friends". Please email us for information.
The group help with voluntary work running the church, looking after the churchyard and planning and organising events.

Help for Visitors

WiFi is available in the church, please ask our church members for the log on password.

When the church is open on Wednesdays from 11am to 3pm there are church members to provide information and guide visitors if they wish.
We hold Tower Tours on tower open days and on open Wednesdays provided the Tower Captain is present.
Guided tours of the churchyards are available by arrangement, on Wednesdays we have people on hand for those researching genealogy.

Heritage leaflets and historic information books are available in the church.
We have a digital Burial Ground Management System. Enquiries welcome.

The church is open for visitors every Wednesday from 11am to 3pm and on Saturdays from 11.30am to 1.30pm.

We welcome visitors with dogs to our church.


Other Features

We have multimedia projection facilities. Automatic drop down screen and laptop by arrangement.
We have a sound system with microphones, CD player and a Loop Aerial.
CCTV cameras in the tower show the bells ringing and the ringers in the ringing room. (it is not permanently on).

St Leonard's is in the Wortley Conservation Area.

Our church building can be hired for community events. Subject to approval by the PCC. Please apply to [email protected]
