The Easter Vigil is the greatest and most noble of all solemnities and must take place during the night and so it does not begin until after nightfall with the blessing of the fire and the preparation of the paschal candle into which five grains of incense are inserted into the cross to represent the wounds of Christ. There follows a candlelit procession during which the Easter Proclamation ( Lucernarium) is sung. The second part of the service is the Liturgy of the Word (The Word Of God), the third part is the Baptismal Liturgy during which all will renew the baptismal promises. The service concludes with the Liturgy of the Eucharist, the Mass.
This will be a long service, the vigil of all vigils, but it will a truly moving and inspiring experience and there will be food and drink afterwards to refresh your souls.
We are Easter people and alleluia is our song. HE IS RISEN ALLELUIA.
