Tonight is the culmination of the Sacred Paschal Triduum. On Holy Saturday the Church waits at the Lord's tomb in prayer, fasting and meditating on his Passion , death and resurrection. The Mass is a joyous occasion and is in four parts:
1. The solemn beginning of the Vigil or Lucernarium followed by the blessing of the fire and preparation of the paschal candle, a procession and the singing of the Easter Proclamation or Exsultet.
2. The Liturgy of the Word.
3. The Baptismal Liturgy and renewal of baptismal promises.
4. The Liturgy of the Eucharist.
