An extract from the article:"To commemorate 150 years, a new stained glass window at St Mary's Church in Walkley has been unveiled. Chris Wilson takes a closer look. "Like many neighbourhood churches, St Mary's on South Road, Walkley has evolved over the years to remain at the heart of the area it serves."Walk past the adjoining community hall at any given time of the week and you will find a well-used space that is home to art groups, a writers group, and various dance classes, a community choir, jazz bands, Karate and other groups."But 2019 has brought the Church itself firmly into focus as it has celebrated its 150th anniversary year, and the whole community has come together to raise the £39,000 required to install a splendid new 21st century stained glass window."The new window was officially dedicated by the Bishop of Sheffield in a special service which was also attended by its creator Mark Angus, an acclaimed English stained glass artist now based in Bavaria."For St Mary's vicar, the reverend Melanie FitzGerald, the installation was the culmination of a busy period in the life of the church, which was consecrated in August 1869 and built before most of the other houses in the area appeared, although they were already planned."Follow the link to view the whole article in The Sixer (pages 68-70) and enjoy Mark Rodgers' photographs.https://issuu.com/regionalmagazinecompany/docs/sixer_nov19/68
