Back in 1986, over 100 people donated materials for 76 people to make 130 new hassocks (kneelers) for use by the congregation. Their designs celebrate events; act as memorials; and connect church and village heritage.
As the church anticipates its' re-ordering and modernisation in 2023, these kneelers are being retired after long and honourable service. The church leadership seeks to manage the retirement from service of these small works of art in three ways:
* up to 10 kneelers with significance to the history of our village and church will be selected imminently and moved to form an archive record.
* Kneelers will be returned to those who supported the work or to those with a family member who did. Up to the end of December 2022, anyone who has either designed; donated materials; embroidered for a kneeler, or has a family link to someone who did back in the 1980's is encouraged to contact Judith Hubbard via the Parish Office (email: [email protected]). As Judith holds a list of donors and workers she will facilitate the rightful return of a kneeler.
* From January 2023, any unclaimed kneelers will be available for members of the village and community to adopt. We would hope that a suitable donation would be given towards the church modernisation project.
Should you have any questions about this process or wish to register your interest in providing a loving home for a kneeler, please contact Judith Hubbard through the Parish Office ([email protected])
Finally, if you know anyone either in the church community or the wider village community who may have a personal or family connection interest in a kneeler, please bring this article to their attention.
