HELLO AND WELCOME

The church sets aside the month of September as the creation season and 1st September is World day of prayer for the care of Creation.

We are very fortunate to live in such a beautiful part of God’s creation so we pray for farmers, gardeners and all who help keep our village clean including the supporters of Leigh in Bloom.

For many, September is a time of fresh starts: new schools, colleges and universities. For some starting work or new jobs. For me retirement offers fresh beginnings and the chance to choose new challenges.

We are blessed that wherever we are and whatever we do God is there with us as he said (Jeremiah 29:11) “'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the LORD, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. '”

For the more energetic on 7th September the village comes together for the Summer Show and Superstars. We are seeking a willing competitor to represent the Church. Over 16’s only may apply. This is a great opportunity to raise money for St Mary’s and all the village organisations that enrich our lives and help the more vulnerable members of our community.

Following the Summer Show, we will hold the annual Pet Service in the Marquee at 10am on Sunday 8th September and all are welcome with or without pets! Please come and join us.

We recently said farewell to Joan Montgomery at a lovely intimate service taken by the Revs Mandy Carr and Hannah Glover. Joan was well known among gardeners and history lovers in the village and was for many years an ‘eight o’clocker’, that is she attended the 8am Communion Service each week over many years. We are blessed to have known someone like Joan and were able to share our memories of her with her family and friends.

Although many people think of our church as “rich” in finances for some years now we have been spending more than our income, using money from generous past bequests to support particularly David Bennie’s work. This is running out so we do need more financial giving to continue this. While caring for our village, we also need to care for our built environment. Repairs to the building will cost over £20k, so we need your help to raise the funds to pay for the repairs needed. Please give what you can if you want to help keep the church to remain standing and an historic land mark.

Sending warm regards to all. Linda Boyd and Richard Nevard
