BIBLE READING Psalm 107:23-31
read by Bob Trimble – Chairman of Cowes Week Ltd

A reading from the Book of Psalms

They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters;
These see the works of the LORD, and his wonders in the deep.
For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the
waves thereof.
They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their
soul is melted because of trouble.
They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wit's
end.
Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of
their distresses.
He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.
Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their
desired haven.
Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his
wonderful works to the children of men!

BLESSING OF THE PLAQUES

In the faith of Jesus Christ,
and with thanksgiving for the generosity of those who
contributed to them and the skill of those who have crafted
them,
we dedicate and set apart these Memorial Plaques
to be a sign of the service and sacrifice
given by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip
to our Country and Commonwealth.

Almighty God, our shield and defender,
bless these plaques we pray,
that they may be a source of consolation and inspiration
for all who come to remember and give thanks
for Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip;
in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and forever.
All Amen.
PRAYERS
Almighty God, you have blessed us with the gift of this earthly life, and the
promise of life eternal.
We especially give thanks today for Queen Elizabeth ll and her husband
Prince Philip and for their long service to the country.
Help us to be faithful to their memory, and loyal to one another and to
you, our Sovereign Lord; through Jesus Christ our Saviour.
All Amen.
Merciful Father, as we remember dear ones departed,
so we pray for their families and loved ones who mourn.
Guide them through times of difficulty, when the sea and the sky are lonely
because of loss, and let good memories light up times of darkness.
May the sadness of farewell become for us all, in time,
the anticipation of reunion at the last; in Jesus Christ our Lord.
All Amen.
Lord God, give us faith as a star to steer by;
give us trust that you are with us throughout our life’s voyage;
give us confidence that you will bring us safely to the haven we long for,
when the dawn of joy will break eternally for us all
and we reach the further shores of your love;
guided by your son Jesus who calmed the storm and promised his lasting
peace.
All Amen.
Let us pray with confidence, as our Saviour has taught us:
All Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come; thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
Lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.

A SHIP SAILS Read by Leading Cadet Alicia Davison

I am standing on the seashore, a ship sails in the morning breeze and starts
for the ocean.
She is an object of beauty and I stand watching her till at last, she fades on
the horizon and someone at my side says: "She is gone."
Gone where? Gone from my sight that is all.
She is just as large in the masts, hull and spars as she was when I saw her,
and just as able to bear her load of living freight to its destination.
The diminished size and total loss of sight is in me, not in her, and just at
the moment when someone at my side says, "She is gone"
there are others who are watching her arrival, and other voices take up a
glad shout "Here she comes!"
