511 O Lord, my God
420 Lord, thy word abideth
379 Lead us, heav'nly Father, lead us
756 Ye servants of God
The Collect
O God the protector of all who trust in you,
without whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy:
increase and multiply upon us your mercy:
that with you as our ruler and guide
we may so pass through things temporal
that we lose not our hold on things eternal;
grant this, heavenly Father,
for our Lord Jesus Christ's sake
who is alive and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

Genesis 22.1-14
Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!”“Here I
am,” he replied.
Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and
go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a
mountain I will show you.”
Early the next morning Abraham got up and loaded his donkey. He took with
him two of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for
the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about.
On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance.
He said to his servants, “Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go
over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you.”
Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son
Isaac, and he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them went
on together,
Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, “Father?”“Yes, my son?”
Abraham replied.
“The fire and wood are here,” Isaac said, “but where is the lamb for the burnt
offering?”
Abraham answered, “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt
offering, my son.” And the two of them went on together.
When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an
altar there and arranged the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him
on the altar, on top of the wood.
Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son.
But the angel of the LORD called out to him from heaven, “Abraham!
Abraham!” “Here I am,” he replied.
“Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said. “Do not do anything to him. Now I
know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son,
your only son.”
Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram a caught by its
horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering
instead of his son.
So Abraham called that place The LORD Will Provide. And to this day it is said,
“On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided
Romans 6.12-23
Therefore, do not let sin exercise dominion in your mortal bodies, to make you obey their passions. No longer present your members to sin as instruments of wickedness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and present your members to God as instruments of righteousness. For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.
What then? Should we sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means! Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God that you, having once been slaves of sin, have become obedient from the heart to the form of teaching to which you were entrusted, and that you, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness. I am speaking in human terms because of your natural limitations. For just as you once presented your members as slaves to impurity and to greater and greater iniquity, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness for sanctification.
When you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. So what advantage did you then get from the things of which you now are ashamed? The end of those things is death. But now that you have been freed from sin and enslaved to God, the advantage you get is sanctification. The end is eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Matthew 10.40-42
‘Whoever welcomes you welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. Whoever welcomes a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward; and whoever welcomes a righteous person in the name of a righteous person will receive the reward of the righteous; and whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones in the name of a disciple—truly I tell you, none of these will lose their reward.’
We pray for all who live and work in St Andrews Street, York Street, Cross Street, The Parade, Victoria Mews, Church View Close and the parish of St. Faith's.
