Very much an unfinished project, the attached documents summarise what we've found out about the clergy associated with St James,'s Gretton. So far we've outlined the history of the clergy - and some of their claims to fame beyond the parish - between 1086, when the first record of a priest in Gretton appears in the Domesday Book, to the Restoration of the monarchy in 1660. So there's much more to come...
And for those like us who struggle with some of the historic terms used for clergy, priests vicars, prebends and the like, we've added here a short glossary. All feedback welcome!
