Getting here
Christ Church is a welcoming and friendly church with a multi national congregation, who seek to know God better and make him better known in the parish of Christ Church.
At the heart of our Sunday morning worship is the Eucharist. The worshipping day ends with a service of sung evensong acording to the Book of Common Prayer. Children's church takes place alongside the Eucharist service in the special designated area within the church where the Christian Faith is shared and taught through stories and activities.
Christ Church was consecrated in 1906 and its parish extends from the boundary of Abington Park towards the town centre. Local architect, Matthew Holding designed the church in the 14th century style. The West end of the church was completed in the 1980's designed by another local architect, Maurice Walton. The Church houses a fine Aeolian organ, a gift of the Barratt family in 1961 when it was moved from their family home in Kingsthorpe. The church is open regularly through the week but please call the Church Wardens or our Parish Priest if you are making a special visit.
The unique organ was originally built by the Aeolian Company of America and installed in the music room at the Kingsthorpe home of Mr Richard Barratt by A E Davies & Son. The case was made of Austrian oak and designed by Talbot Brown of Wellingborough. In 1936 J W Walker & Sons enlarged the original organ by adding a further stops and many pipes were replaced or remodelled. In 1961 Norman Barratt presented the organ to Christ Church, and was once again installed by J W Walker & Sons.
