St. George is Patron Saint of England as a whole, and Evenley Village in particular. Our lovely village church, dedicated to St. George, has sat on this sight since at least the 12th Century. Most of our church was rebuilt in the 19th century, but parts of the older building do survive, as do memorials to some remarkable Evenley residents. In any case, old or new, all of our church is beautiful.
Thanks to our team of volunteers, our church is open each day for visitors and as a space for prayer, or just a place to breath in the busyness of the week. Our wonderful team of volunteers care for our church grounds (where curious adjacent alpacas can be seen leaning over the wall) and our dedicated round of Bell Ringers can be heard practicing during the week, or ringing for our services and other important events in the life of the village or the nation.
As beautiful as our building and churchyard are, our focus is and always has been our devoted and welcoming Christian community. Here at St. George's we meet together to pray, to celebrate, to share the ups and downs of life, and to praise God. Anyone is welcome to join us in our services and activities, or simply to visit our church.
We look forward to welcoming to you soon.
