About Us
Welcome to St James’ and St Basil’s Church – known to many as “Js and Bs” – a Church of England multi-generational congregation in Fenham, close to the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne. We are a church that welcomes all, with no exceptions.
The church is open during daylight hours. However you look to God, what ever your tradition, or none, it is open as a place of sanctuary and a place of prayer and peace.
Our website (www.jamesbasilfenham.org.uk) gives you information on services we hold on Sundays and throughout the week, and what to do if you would like to be baptised or married or if you want to hold a funeral at Js and Bs. There are also details about how to get in touch with the clergy, or the person who can tell you about our lovely church hall.
We aim to be a vibrant Christian presence which reaches out to others by reflecting God’s love into the community and the wider world.
We aim to be inclusive and accessible. Everyone from the youngest to the oldest is to be valued, treated with respect, and cared for in the love of Christ.
We commit ourselves to working in partnership with other Christian churches for the proclamation of the gospel.
We aim to promote understanding and cooperation with those of other faiths for the common good.
We meet in a large, Grade 2 listed Church built by Sir James Knott, a wealthy shipping owner, in 1931 in memory of his two sons, James Leadbetter Knott and Henry Basil, Knott both killed in the First World War.
