Be a Chorister for a Day

When? Sunday 14th May
Where? St Gabriel's Church, Heaton, Newcastle
What time? 08:50am-11:15am
Who is it for? Children from 7-13, interested in a fun morning of singing - everyone is welcome, of all faiths and none

Are you or do you know someone who loves singing? Singing in a church choir is one of the best ways to develop musical skills and improve in confidence and creativity.

Children arrive at 08:50am to be given their music, and choir robes to wear on top of their clothes, then at 09:00am we will warm up our voices then learn the music we'll be singing in the service. The service itself is 09:45am to 11:15am. Children need to be accompanied by a parent/carer - you can either join in with the singing if you like, or just observe the rehearsal and be in the congregation for the service.

St Gabriel's Church Heaton

St. Gabriel's is a Church of England Parish Church which seeks to serve all those who live in the parish of Heaton, whether they are people of faith or not. As such we feel called to be open to all, and actively seek ways to show care for the local community, through work with both young and old and everyone in-between! We believe that God calls us to join with him in bringing in his kingdom, and social justice has been, and is, a key part of our sense of mission.

St. Gabriel's Church community was at the forefront of campaigning for the ordination of women as priests and bishops in the Church of England, and some of the first women priests in Newcastle were from St. Gabriel's congregation. Alison Kay, who worshiped at St. Gabriel's, founded the People's Kitchen, a charity in Newcastle that cares for the homeless, and one of the current congregation founded Martha and Mary's on Chillingham Road, a cafe run by volunteers, which provides a warm welcome and hospitality as well as a place for people to meet.

St. Gabriel's is strongly committed to working with other Christians and plays an active part in Heaton Churches Together.
