A reflective, said service following the Church of England's traditional pattern, in contemporary language. A short talk is normally included in this service.
This is our main Sunday worship service. It may be a Service of the Word, or Holy Communion - please refer to our website Calendar page for the latest details.
Often a reflective service of Holy Communion in contemporary language, gathered around the Lord's Table in the nave of our beautiful church. We sometimes hold alternative services for special occasions, or simply to vary our worship. We meet together afterwards in the Church Cottage next door for coffee.
A time of reflection led by different members of our congregations; ending with a short time of shared prayer using the Northumbria Community's version of Compline. We will start at 7.30pm, the better to accommodate those involved with family meals.
We come together in Riding Mill to listen, to pray and to sing reflectively, in the Taizé Community style.
The community in France includes people and traditions from around the world, with an emphasis on youth. The music and prayers are sung in many languages, and include chants from the Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic traditions. The music emphasizes simple phrases, usually lines from Psalms or other pieces of Scripture, repeated and sometimes also sung in canon. A short morning-time service which we shall have in the church building at Slaley, led by our Reader Dorothy.
Tenebrae is a quiet prelude to Easter Day which helps us identify with the darkness and loss felt by Jesus’ followers as they experienced his death.
Some have suggested that this ancient tradition takes us with Jesus as he 'descends to the dead' to deliver the captives. It also parallels the Exodus when Moses freed the slaves in Egypt.
Following each reading a moment of quiet reflection will be held after which a candle will be extinguished and we will share in a response.
We meet at the Methodist Church in Broomhaugh at 10am, then pray and walk together to the Parish Hall, where hot cross buns will be shared.
We take a Cross to the Marchburnside, next to the Tennis Club. While there we will reflect, from within God's Creation, on the story of the Passion of Jesus and what it means to us today.
We return to the Church building via Dere Street where if you wish you may spend time reflecting together on the Cross from 3pm to 4pm.
A time to sit quietly to listen and pray, reflect and examine ourselves in the light of Jesus' Crucifixion.
Join our friends from Whittenstall, Corbridge, Slaley, Healey and wider for an All-Age Easter Service with Holy Communion and giving of cream eggs at 5.30pm on Saturday 19 April. The service will be about 45 minutes.
A service of warmth and light in the Spinney by the Church followed by lighting the Paschal Candle and placing it in Church. And then Breakfast for anyone wishing to take advantage before the 8am Communion: there will be coffee, tea, Buck's Fizz and pastries in the Church Cottage. This 6.30am Sunrise service is followed by a separate table Communion service at 8am in the Church Cottage after which breakfast remains available as a place to gather, until the 10am service in Church.
This is a 'Breakfast Church' service around our table in the Church Cottage. Join us to celebrate Holy Communion, informally and in community.
Our 'Breakfast Church' worship is built around the Communion. The service is intended to be a participatory act of thanksgiving where we recognize our unity in Christ and the gift of creation through communal acts of worship, conversation, and eating good food.
Please feel free to bring your own breakfast; or share the simple breakfast, coffee, Buck's Fizz (optional!) and tea which we shall provide. Our shared breakfast meal continues on from the Communion service, which starts at 8am, and you are welcome to drop in from about 8.30 even if you do not come to the services, and gather together sharing food and conversation until the 10am service if you wish.
This is our main Easter Day service and includes renewal of our baptismal vows. Our tradition in Riding Mill is to adorn the large wooden Cross inside the church building during the service. Please bring small spring flowers to place in the holders provided on the Cross. We will take the Cross outside the church after the service.
