The Friends of St Oswald's Church Heavenfield
The Friends have two aims:-
(a) To arouse and further interest in St Oswald's Church and the site of the Battle of Heavenfield.
(b) To assist the Vicar and Churchwardens with funds to preserve the fabric of the Church and assist in the preservation and enrichment of ornaments and furnishings of the Church and maintenance of its services.
Funds are used for :-
(a) The maintenance of the fabric - walls, roof, windows and doors.
(b) The upgrading of furnishings - kneelers, seats, church accoutrements, sanctuary fittings.
(c) Increase of facilities for services both for the local community and visiting groups and pilgrims.
(d) Regular revision and re-appraisal of the visual display and exhibition in the vestry.
The site is a very exposed one and as it has no electricity or water and no permanent heating system, the church and its contents are vulnerable to extremes of temperature and to damp. Funds are always needed to help with maintenance.
Friends pay an annual subscription of £ 10 (GBP), more if desired, or £ 12 for any group representing a Church, School, Society or Business Enterprise. Additional donations will always help to maintain the Church. We are grateful to those who are tax payers and are prepared to gift aid their donation as this adds considerably to our funds.
You will receive an annual newsletter.
Friends often join our annual pilgrimage on the first Saturday in August following the ancient monk’s route from Hexham Abbey to Heavenfield. For more details see the website of St Oswald’s Church Heavenfield
Please help us to maintain this beautiful church and its historic site.
