We'd love to welcome you to have a Christening for your Child at St Mary's  - or to explore getting Baptised yourself.

The Baptism Service

All Baptism services take place on Sunday afternoons and last around 30-35 minutes. We try to make them very family friendly and include other children present.

Booking

We make all bookings over the telephone so we can talk you through the process and answer any questions. Please telephone 07780 808289 or send a text and we will ring you. If you get the answerphone please leave a message or we won’t know to ring you back! Please be aware that at busy times it may take us a few days to get back to you - but we will!

Preparation

All parents (all legal guardians) must attend a baptism preparation session before the Christening. We will arrange this when you book your Christening. The sessions take around 45-60 minutes.

Godparents

Being a Godparent is very special. Godparents make the baptism promises on behalf of your child and have a role throughout their life -  to pray for them, help them to learn about God, and to support them. It is traditional to have 3 - 4 God-parents, but we can write up to 5 names in our registers. Godparents must be baptised themselves, so please check this with them. They also need to be able to attend the service.

Afterwards

One Sunday after the Christening we ask you to come back to our 9:45am Sunday Service for the Baptism 'Welcome.' At the welcome, we will give your child their Baptism Certificate and a Memory Scrapbook as a keepsake.
