Hymns & Music for 31st January recorded by Mel, St. Paul's Church Organist
Mel writes:
As well as being the fourth Sunday of Epiphany, this Sunday is also the one closest to Candlemass on February 2, 40 days after Christmas and the end of this year’s Christmas season. The presentation of Christ to the old priest Simeon is described in today’s Gospel. That reading includes the text which forms the well-known canticle used at Evensong, the ‘Nunc Dimittis’. That inspires two of this week’s suggested items.
CP 213 Christ is the world's light - https://youtu.be/qvw3aLhzEqA
AMNS 453 Faithful vigil ended - https://youtu.be/xWuu_UfIHZI
Nunc Dimittis - Anglican chant - https://youtu.be/1u6hI80uR6s
CP 513 Lord the light of your love is shining - https://youtu.be/5kIC9jxhbfE
Candlemass was traditionally a time for light and the other two items are intended to reflect light, the Light of Christ. In France, crêpes (pancakes) are a traditional food for this feast day and that seems a jolly good excuse to practice for pancake day!
Best regards,
Mel.
