Hymns for 16th August - recorded by Mel, St. Paul's Church Organist
Mel writes :
This week's hymns have an exceptionally wide timespan from the 'Old Hundredth' to modern words from the Philadelphia Presbyterian pastor, Carolyn Winfrey Gillette. In the hymn "She came to Jesus" she takes the highly inclusive story of the Canaanite woman whose daughter is healed that occurs in today's Gospel reading from St Matthew. It follows the old tradition of using a very familiar tune to make for easy singing of new material.
Two of this week's hymns were recorded earlier in lockdown.
