About Us
The Parish of Kirklees Valley is made up of the churches of All Saints, Elton, and St James, Woolfold, in Bury, in the Diocese of Manchester. We exist to serve the people of our area - from Brandlesholme to Woodhill and Elton, and the area around the Walshaw and Tottington Roads.
We're here to share the love and hope of Jesus with all the people of the parish in all sorts of ways:
OUR SERVICES - every Sunday and on special occasions like Christmas, Easter, Pentecost and Harvest
COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES & EVENTS - from fun-days and fairs, to BBQs, school visits, toddler groups, regular afternoon teas & family events, we aim to be at the heart of our community life
WORKING TOGETHER with local people, community groups & projects to make life better in our area & town
GETTING OUT INTO THE COMMUNITY - into schools for assemblies and classwork; services and visiting for residential homes; support for those in need at home and abroad
TIME & SPACE TO REFLECT - our churches offer sacred space and time out of the busy-ness of life to reflect on life and its challenges, to be silent or to speak to someone
THE BIG EVENTS - from baptisms to confirmations and communion; weddings, visits and home-communions; ministry to the dying and bereaved and funeral services
PRAYER - at any time, whether you're in difficult circumstances or not, please come and see us
We do all these things because we believe God loves every one of us and wants us all to know we are loved by him. We welcome anyone who wants to find out more about God to come and visit us - and even if you don't, we still want to share God's love with you by serving you as best we can.
St James Church is a refurbished 1930s gem of a church on the Walshaw Road, with an easily-accessible warm parish centre next door. The centre is used throughout the week by various community groups, and sometimes for worship, since there is no working heating in the Church. There is a small garden of remembrance just beside the front of the church. There is a lovely family atmosphere at St James and we welcome people of all ages to join us for worship or other activities throughout the year. On Sundays in winter, we gather in the Lady Chapel for our main service.
