St Georges Day Prayer

Notices
Archbishop of Canterbury Today, on the feast of our patron Saint George, may the Holy Spirit strengthen our hearts to receive courage to walk in faith and trust in the loving kindness of God in everything we face.

Who was St George?Very little is known about St George’s life, but it is thought he was a high ranking officer in the Roman army who was killed around AD 303.St George was believed to have been tortured because of his faith in Christ. In the Church of England, you may hear the following prayer said in the coming days.God of hosts, who so kindled the flame of lovein the heart of your servant Georgethat he bore witness to the risen Lordby his life and by his death:give us the same faith and power of lovethat we who rejoice in his triumphsmay come to share with him the fullness of the resurrection;through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you,in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.Amen#StGeorgesDay #StGeorge #PrayerOfStGeorge
