There were 10 teams competing from across the Chiltern & Central branches of the Oxford Diocesan Guild of Bell Ringers. They cover an area ranging from Aylesbury to Wendover and Stewkley to Great Missenden.
The competition is about accuracy with which bells are rung - so crucial to the sound experienced by those listening. Judges assess each team on the basis of a test piece and faults scored against the slightest imperfection. Aston Clinton had 31 faults but if that sounds alot, the runners up (Wendover) had over 50.
The last 3 competitions had been won by Stewkley from the Central Branc and after the results were announced, the secretary of the Chiltern Branch, Philip Dobson wrote:
"Many congratulations to Aston Clinton, thank you for wresting the cup from Central Branch!
