This year St Michael’s Church, Ashton-u-Lyne will again host a concert of sacred music from different religious traditions:
Muslim, Jewish, Oriental Orthodox, Anglican and Hindu.

Gulcin Bulut
Born in Istanbul Gulcin moved to the UK aged 20, and now works as a Psychotherapist in the NHS. She is co-founder of NWTCA, a charity that provides Turkish language, traditional dance and music classes, and promotes Turkish culture in the North West. She is a noted performer of traditional Turkish folk and Sufi music.

Mina Salama
Born in Alexandria, Egypt, Mina is a multi-instrumentalist, musical director, vocal coach and composer, He has performed on three continents promoting Coptic sacred music. He was chosen to design a peel of bells for Milan’s Coptic Cathedral in
2018 and currently is working on a research project on ancient Egyptian music at the University of Huddersfield.

Leon Keuffer
Young Brazilian born violinist Leon studied at Chethams ́s School of Music in Manchester, the Royal College of Music and Salzburg Mozarteum. A member of Salzburg Philharmonic Orchestra and Salzburg Chamber Soloists, Leon is a composer who draws on his Moroccan Jewish musical roots.

Avital Raz
Based now in Sheffield Avital is an Israeli singer/songwriter and musician who spent six years in India studying the sacred art of Dhrupad singing. She has recorded seven albums of her own music. The Scottish Herald said of her performance that it is "likely to be the most compelling thing you hear all year". Avital will perform chants in Hebrew and Sanskrit.

Cecilia Keuffer
Born in Rio de Janeiro of Moroccan and Spanish Jewish descent, Cecilia studied music at the Conservatorio Carlos Gomes in Belém, in the heart of Amazonia and in the US. During her 30 year courtship with music, Cecilia has sung opera, lieder, Jewish Sephardi song and Brazilian Jazz, she also sings most weeks with the choir of St Michael’s and drives a bus for Stagecoach.
