Baptism is freely offered by the Church of England to all who express an interest in taking this step on an amazing journey of faith. Some call it ‘Christening’ we call it ‘Baptism’. Even though the words Baptism and Christening are generally interchangeably, there is a subtle difference. Christening refers to the naming ceremony whereas we are ‘baptised’ with water to be born again into the Christian faith. Every child is precious; we all want the very best for them and so does our God. Baptism is a sign of starting to make right choices in life for ourselves and for others.
Parents do not need to have been christened themselves to bring their child to baptism but those chosen as Godparents do need to have been baptised. Generally the rule is two male and one female Godparents for a boy, two female and one male Godparents for a girl but you can have more. Godparents need to be willing to make promises on behalf of themselves and the young one being baptised.
The first step in enquiring about a Christening/Baptism is to come to one of our Sunday morning services and speak with one of the wardens on duty.
