About Us
St Paul's is a thriving and growing church community that seeks for every Londoner to encounter the love of God in Jesus Christ.
Our vision as a church is to:
to pray with compassion & faith
to love with courage & hope
to serve with creativity & joy
We are rooted in the heart of the Lisson Green and Church Street Estates, Westminster. We are an inclusive and outward-looking church. We seek to grow younger, more racially diverse and safer as a church representative of this local community. We work in partnership with our local community to live out our Christian faith by loving God and loving our neighbour. We have extensive and long-established links with many local groups and community organisations and we work together to nurture a flourishing and life-giving community. Each week we welcome hundreds of people through the doors of our church for spiritual, social, wellbeing, educational and physical activities.
We work closely with our church school, Christ Church Bentinck CE Primary School, recently awarded Outstanding by Ofsted and SIAMS. We are proactive in striving for the good of our community - engaging with groups such as the Church Street Ward Neighbourhood Forum and working closely with local faith communities. Through our partnership with West London Synagogue and Foodcycle we offer a free community meal every Wednesday night to over 70 people at the church. The meal is cooked and hosted by a team of volunteers - with a database of over 600 volunteers who have served at St Paul's over the past four years. The food for the meal is donated by local supermarkets, market-traders and City Harvest. We are grateful for generous donations from the Evening Standard, 'Food for London' campaign, Baker Street Quarter Partnership, Neighbourhood Keepers and other local charities enabling us to employ a Food and Wellbeing Project Manager at St Paul's Church.
We work with adults with learning difficulties to prepare a soup-lunch every Friday for a local drop-in centre; we host spaces for mental health and wellbeing groups; a community choir and children's choir; community coffee mornings and Fair-Trade stall; physical activity groups like Yoga, kids sports, Aikido, Tai Chi, Zumba for over 50s, Line Dancing; Drama and Arts groups like Musical Youth UK, Tango Classes, 5Rhythms, children's dance groups; and educational groups like Westminster Adult Education Service and one-to-one tutoring.
As a church we are well known and respected in the local community. We spend time in the local cafes, pubs and along the market to get to know and praying for our local community. We host a weekly discipleship group in a local cafe, Christmas Carols in the local pubs, and Ash Wednesday 'Ashes to Go' liturgies in the marketplace.
We are part of the national EcoChurch movement having recently received a Silver Award for our environmental commitment, and the children in our church lead a monthly Climate Club. We recently restored our church roof and installed solar panels and we are working on designs a gardening space outside the church.
We gather for prayer, worship and Bible Study on a daily basis (Morning and Evening Prayer & Bible Brunch) and our main Sunday gathering takes place at 10am every week.
The church congregation is diverse and ranges from infants to the elderly; we share together in Holy Community, listen to and reflect on the Holy Scriptures, and pray for our community, city and nation.
There are lots of ways to get involved in the life of St Paul's and there are always new opportunities opening up as we respond to God's call to serve our community. You can find out more about our life together via our website: http://www.stpaulsmarylebone.org
