About Us
St James's is an Anglican church near the centre of London. We welcome worshippers, enquirers and visitors from all over London and from many parts of the world as well as from this locality. Although part of the Church of England, St James's is pleased to be able to offer hospitality to members of all traditions.
Our worship is catholic in style, with professional music, dignified ceremonial and preaching which aims to expound the Christian gospel in an intelligible and challenging style. We believe that God, who has created all that is, loves us with an undying love, which is expressed supremely in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus his Son, the Word made flesh.
We aim to respond to that love through our worship and our collective and individual commitment, and to work out the implications of that love in our relationships with one another. We see ourselves as a community of forgiven sinners still constantly in need of forgiveness and the grace of God. We believe that since the love of God is universal, all in the world are held in its embrace and constantly called to recognise this and to act upon it.
The Eucharist - Mass or Holy Communion - is the centre of our common life. There we gather around the altar to give thanks to the God of our life and to receive from him the body and blood of his Son - the bread of life and the cup of everlasting salvation.
We hope that one day we shall find you here with us in Paddington to share or worship and life.
