Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent - a period of 40 days of deep reflection and drawing closer to Jesus, leading up to the joyful celebration of Easter. On Ash Wednesday, a cross of ash is traced across each forehead. These words are said, 'Remember that you are dust, and to dust you will return', as a reminder that we don't live forever and we need to put right the things in our lives that damage our relationships with each other and the earth, and distance us from God. By receiving the cross of ash we are reminded of our dependence on God.
Do join us whether you want to simply watch, or would like to receive the ash yourself as a powerful symbol at the start of Lent.
The service will take place in the church building. If you would like to join on Zoom please contact [email protected]

Safeguarding

St Mary's Norwood Green is committed to safeguarding children, young people and adults from harm. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer (PSO). Our Diocese of London’s safeguarding pages (https://www.london.anglican.org/church-and-parish-support/safeguarding/contact-us/) contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor who advises our PSO. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact St Mary's PSO, David Beeston: [email protected] / 07947132679. Alternatively, you can contact the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisors - our main Leads for the Willesden Area are Angela Colman and Lee Elliott - [email protected] / 020 7932 1224.
*If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority’s children or adult social care services.

Out of hours advice can be sought from the Thirtyone:eight helpline on 0303 003 111- select option 2. Thirtyone:eight is an independent charity which works closely with London Diocese Safeguarding Team. Further information can be found on their website - https://thirtyoneeight.org.
