At St Peter's we are a diverse community with roots in many different cultures and countries. This year we celebrated our shared lives in Christ by wearing our own national colours and dress, bringing in flags and offering food for everyone to try. During the service we said the Lord's prayer in our different languages. The sermon reminded us that God always speaks to us in ways we can understand and that to follow Christ is to turn the world's values upside down, or maybe that should be the right way up.
When the Sunday Club children came back from their session in the hall, they showed us the flames they had made, which they held high above their heads as they ran like the wind around the church. Then everyone had a candle lit from the Paschal candle signifying that in the power of the Holy Spirit the work Jesus began was now in our hands and on our heads. As its flame was extinguished we said the words of the commission as we pledged to carry his light out into the world.
We then continued our celebrations with a power point showing photographs of our lives together as the community of St Peter's over the past few years and sharing the food. It was a wonderful way to celebrate our unity and God's eternal and universal love which through the work of the Holy Spirit continues........
