About Us

Emmanuel Church was built in 1841 and consecrated on Friday 13th June 1843.  It was made the Parish Church of Newton-in-Makerfield following the Winwick Rectory Act 1841 which divided the large parish of Winwick into several smaller parishes.  Had the patron of the Chapel at St Peter's, Newton, agreed to transfer his patronage to the Earl of Derby, St Peter's would have been the Parish Church and Emmanuel never built.
