Christ Church Aughton

Welcome to Christ Church Aughton!

Serving our community, accepting people as they are and sharing the good news of Jesus. Whether you’re new to the area, exploring faith, visiting or looking for a place to call home, you’re so welcome here!

The Parochial Church Council Report is a wonderful way to read and learn about the life of Christ Church Aughton and a testimony to God’s grace, as we have so much to celebrate. To view the 2023 report, click here.

For more information about our regular services and special events, particularly during Easter, click on "What's on" (below).  Once you're there, select the Calendar to see everything that's happening in the coming weeks / months and you can click on each event to get more details.  And don't forget to check out our 'News and notices' to stay informed about any thing new or special taking place.

Process to appoint new vicar: Following Rev’d Sarah O’Donoghue’s move to the Diocese of Blackburn in November 2024, we entered a period of interregnum, nowadays called a ‘vacancy’, which is a legal process that we have to go through.

March 2035 update: The position is currently advertised on the Church of England website ‘Pathways’ which can be viewed here. A six-member interview panel has been appointed to lead the selection process. The panel comprises two Representatives from the Christ Church PCC, the Area Dean, the Deanery Lay Representative, our Patron Rev Andrew Housley and the Archdeacon (who is the Bishop’s Representative).

These representatives (five males and one female) will be responsible for conducting candidate interviews which will hopefully lead to the recommendation of a preferred candidate to the Bishop. The preferred candidate will then meet with the bishop of Liverpool for Episcopal consent to the appointment.

It is anticipated that applications for the post will be received over the next 4-6 weeks, albeit most likely after Easter, with a further 2 weeks taken to prepare a shortlist of suitable candidates. (This process of shortlisting will be anonymised, removing all personal details, so that the process is balanced, fair and free of any unconscious bias).

Taking everything into consideration, the best outcome would see the new Vicar being welcomed to Christ Church in September at an Installation Service conducted by the Bishop.

Electoral Roll Enrolment in 2025: It is important to have an accurate list of church members at Christ Church Aughton, so we are creating a new Electoral Roll in 2025 to replace the current one. The Church of England’s “Notice of preparation of the New Roll” will be at the back of church starting on February 16. If you’d like to view an online version of the Notice, it can be viewed here.

To ensure the new Roll is adequately displayed before the Annual Parochial Church Meeting on Sunday, April 27, 2025, all enrolment forms that were completed and submitted by March 23, 2025, will be used to display a list of all enrolled members. This list will be displayed at the back of church between April 6 and 27, during which time any necessary alterations can be made.

Enrolled church members will be entitled to vote at the next Annual Parochial Church Meeting on April 27, 2025.

Thank you to everyone who completed and submitted an enrolment form.
