St Mary Wavertree

A church that welcomes everyone. We are a recognised child-friendly church, with weekly services at 10:30am on Sundays followed by the opportunity for chat over a tea or coffee and a biscuit.  There is provision for young people from primary age and up in all our services. We are committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and adults. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer. The Diocese of Liverpool’s safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor (DSA) who advises our PSO.

Access this guidance and support including contact information at Liverpool Diocesan Safeguarding info

St. Mary’s Wavertree is a wheelchair accessible Church. The entrance is via a ramped pathway which runs the length of the Church making it a very manageable gradient leading to the double doored entrance into the porch of the Church, which is wide enough to facility any width of wheelchair or mobility scooter. The porch has sufficient turning space to enter through the double doored entrance to the Church Hall which is used for the social events of the Church and is carpeted with short piled carpet which is easy to push over. Access to toilets including disabled access toilet is via double doors off the hall. The Church itself is accessed via double doors from the hall and has dedicated wheelchair spaces. There is one step up to reach the Altar rail which has a hand rail to assist those with enough mobility to manage approximately one metre to the rail. The Altar rails do not cover the central area of the aisle allowing wheelchair users to reach the step where they can be clearly seen by the Celebrant if they wish to go for Communion with the rest of the Congregation or if preferred a Churchwarden or Sidesperson will ensure the Celebrant is made aware to bring Communion to you in the body of the Church.
