Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only' Luke 4:8
This month starts with remembering the Transfiguration of Jesus on the mountain with His three friends. The words of God, the Father, to His Son, focus our attention on the divinity of Jesus, and our need to worship. This is my Son, whom I love; with Him I am well pleased. Listen to Him
As we enter Lent, preparing for the sacred moments of Holy Week, we pray for the whole church that we may concentrate on following Jesus, and not be deflected by the events surrounding us. We pray for the leaders of the church, that they will shepherd their flocks with love, integrity, kindness, justice and truth, regardless of political pressure to toe the line.
We pray for lasting and permanent peace in the world, that all peoples may live side by side, allowing each other the space to have cultural and faith differences, without any other nation coveting the resources of their neighbours. We pray especially for the displaced people who cannot return to their homes, because their houses and towns no longer exist. We pray for the agricultural community, as the season turns to sowing and care of the newborn livestock. We pray for the right weather, for resources to sustain the cycle of growth, and for the farming community, as they support and care for each other.
As we have said goodbye and God bless to Mark and Sam, we now need to pray for the process of appointing a new vicar.
"And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity." Colossians 3:14
