Gospel Reading Luke 9.51-56 When the days drew near for him to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem. And he sent messengers ahead of him. On their way they entered a village of the Samaritans to make ready for him; but they did not receive him, because his face was set towards Jerusalem. When his disciples James and John saw it, they said, ‘Lord, do you want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them?’[a] But he turned and rebuked them. Then[b] they went on to another village. Post Communion God, shepherd of your people, whose servant Hugh revealed the loving service of Christ in his ministry as a pastor of your people: by this eucharist in which we share awaken within us the love of Christ and keep us faithful to our Christian calling; through him who laid down his life for us, but is alive and reigns with you, now and for ever. CHURCH AND COMMUNITY NEWS On Friday 22nd November the Grimsby Bach Choir will perform Vivaldi’s Gloria, and on Saturday 30th November the Grimsby Symphony Orchestra will present an afternoon concert featuring Dvořàk, Cello Concerto, Schubert, Symphony Nº8, and Rossini, The Barber of Seville. On Saturday, 23rd November there will be a huge day of festive celebrations in the Minster and in the Square as the Great Grimsby Christmas Festival makes a return. From 12 noon until 7pm there will be a wide range of events to celebrate the upcoming holiday, including the Christmas lights switch-on. Also, don’t miss LUMA, an interactive light installation in the Minster Nave There will be no morning prayer on this day due to the activity setting up the festival and installing LUMA. On Sunday 24th October at 4pm we will celebrate our final Choral Evensong of the Year at the Minster. The Minster Choir will be joined by the choir of Newark Parish Church. In response to concerns about the Assisted Dying for Terminally Ill Adults Bill now making its way through Parliament, Bishop Stephen has issued a pastoral letter. Copies of this letter can be provided on request. We are also looking for Baptism Sides persons to assist clergy on Sunday afternoons at the Minster. Sunday afternoon baptisms are usually very well attended and it is difficult for the officiating clergy to keep a handle on all that is going on before, during and after the service. Lay help is essential and invaluable, so please earnestly consider lending a hand. The more volunteers we get will help to lighten the load. Car Parking. We would urge all members of the congregation who come to the Minster in cars to avoid parking on the grass to prevent the ground being churned up in wet weather. Double parking, although not ideal, is preferable. The local authority has invested a considerable sum of money on improving St James Square as an amenity for local people and as good neighbours we would not want to detract from what the space has to offer. PASTORAL PROVISION Bereavement Group The Bereavement Group has closed its sessions for the summer but will be back in October. Meanwhile, the Pastoral Table is available for support Home Visits / Home Communion (Tuesdays; . - . pm) The act of receiving communion is a sacred time of fellowship with God. The Lord's death will be commemorated through prayer and meditation during this special worship time in your home. As we eat the bread and drink the cup, we are reminded of Jesus' sacrifice. Our participation is also a symbol of our union with Christ, as we, by doing this, remember what He has done for us, which is what He asked us to do. Once a month, on a Tuesday afternoon, we could come to your house to take communion to you, or to just have a chat, if you cannot attend church due to health reasons. If you have a family member you would like us to visit in one of the care homes, please, get in touch with us. A Service of the Word is offered to all residentials who are interested, but also private time afterwards if requested. (If you are aware of a care home in our parish that would like to be included or former parishioners who would like to be visited in a care home, please let us know!) Pastoral Table (Wednesdays; . - . pm) The Pastoral Table is in the Cafe of the Minster. It allows you to just come and talk. Although the Pastoral Table is in the Cafe, it gives a bit of privacy. (If more privacy is wished, please, book an appointment with the office which will then take place in a more private place.) Come with your broken hearts, with your concerns, or with any questions you have regarding faith or church matters, whether you are a Christian or not. We are looking forward to meeting you!
