Join us in the Cathedral for the 9.45am Eucharist – Second Sunday Before Advent, Sunday 19 November 2023
ALL SAINTS TO ADVENT
From All Saints’ Day we enter the time of the Christian year that is sometimes called ‘The Kingdom Season’. It is a season of remembering, recalling the saints who have gone before us, the faithful departed on All Souls’ Day, and celebrating on Remembrance Sunday those who have given their lives in war. We wait for the final consummation of God’s new creation in Christ; those who are Christ’s, whether or not they have passed through death, are joined in prayer that God’s kingdom will be revealed finally and in all its fullness. The annual cycle of the Church’s year then ends with the Feast of Christ the King, which returns us to the Advent theme of judgement.
MASS SETTING Mass for five voices William Byrd (c.1540-1623)
PRESIDENT AND PREACHER
The president this morning is The Venerable Stuart Beake, Acting Dean, and we will be hearing a presentation from the Chapter’s Renewal of Giving team. In order to create enough time for this, we will be omitting the Creed and one Bible reading.
THANK YOU
Your support makes a real difference to the ministry and mission of Guildford Cathedral. Thanks to your gifts of time and money we’re proud to open our doors for free, 365 days a year, meeting the needs of both pilgrim and visitor. If you would like to support our work, if you are a member of one of our congregations and have not already done so, please consider joining our Planned Giving Scheme via the Parish Giving Scheme (PGS) and set up a regular donation by direct debit. This is very easy to do over the phone (03330 021 271), using our unique identifier, 170617001. Or via this link https://www.guildford-cathedral.org/support/congregational-giving . Alternatively, one off donations can be made via https://www.guildford-cathedral.org/support
