THE SEASON OF LENT
The season of Lent enables us to prepare for Easter, the most important festival of the church year. Easter is the principal occasion for baptism and for the reconciliation of those who had been excluded from the Church’s fellowship for apostasy or serious faults. This connection explains the characteristic notes of Lent – self-examination, penitence, self-denial and study, to which almsgiving has traditionally been added. Details of a study group during Lent can be found in the What’s Happening section of this service sheet and on the Cathedral’s website.
