Join us in the Cathedral for the Cantata Evensong on The Third Sunday of Epiphany, 22 January, at 6pm.
THE SEASON OF EPIPHANY
The three great themes of Epiphany (an unveiling or manifestation) are the visit of the Magi, the Baptism of Christ and the changing of water into extraordinary wine at a wedding feast in Cana. In the subsequent weeks we will reflect on the continued manifestation of Christ in the ordinary day-to day.
CANTATA BWV 72 BY JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH
The service this evening includes the Cantata written by Johann Sebastian Bach for the Third Sunday of Epiphany in 1726. It was performed on 27 January and has the title Alles nur nach Gottes Willen (Everything according to God's will alone). Today we will hear the readings on which the Cantata is set, taken from the Lectionary of Bach’s time.
