Joins us in the Cathedral for the Eucharist on Sunday 10 March, 09.45
THE SEASON OF LENT
The season of Lent may originally have followed Epiphany, just as Jesus’ sojourn in the wilderness followed immediately on from his baptism. However, it soon became firmly attached to Easter, because Easter is the principal occasion for baptism and for the reconciliation of those who had been excluded from the Church’s fellowship for apostasy or serious faults. This connection explains the characteristic notes of Lent – self-examination, penitence, self-denial and study, to which almsgiving has traditionally been added.
MUSIC SETTING
Mass for five voices William Byrd (1540-1623)
PRESIDENT AND PREACHER
The president this morning is Canon Gilly Myers and the preacher is Canon Duncan Myers.
