THE SEASON OF LENT
The season of Lent may originally have followed Epiphany, just as Jesus’ sojourn in the wilderness followed immediately on from his baptism. However, it soon became firmly attached to Easter, because Easter is the principal occasion for baptism and for the reconciliation of those who had been excluded from the Church’s fellowship for apostasy or serious faults. This connection explains the characteristic notes of Lent – self-examination, penitence, self-denial and study, to which almsgiving has traditionally been added.
THANK YOU
Your support makes a real difference to the ministry and mission of Guildford Cathedral. Thanks to your gifts of time and money we’re proud to open our doors for free, 365 days a year, meeting the needs of both pilgrim and visitor. If you would like to support our work, if you are a member of one of our congregations and have not already done so, please consider joining our Planned Giving Scheme via the Parish Giving Scheme (PGS) and set up a regular donation by direct debit. This is very easy to do over the phone (03330 021 271), using our unique identifier, 170617001. Or via this link https:// https://www.guildford-cathedral.org/support/parish-giving-scheme.
