Join us in the Cathedral for the 9.45am Eucharist – Fourth Sunday of Advent, 24 December
ADVENT
Advent is a season of expectation and preparation, as the Church prepares to celebrate the coming (adventus) of Christ in his incarnation, and also looks ahead to his final advent as judge at the end of time. We are encouraged to cultivate a sense of ‘alert watchfulness’ although the anticipation of Christmas under commercial pressure makes this quite challenging. In the northern hemisphere, the Advent season falls at the darkest time of the year, and the natural symbols of darkness and light are powerfully at work throughout the four weeks of the Season. We light candles on an Advent wreath in remembrance of faith ancestors who were also watching in anticipation for the coming of the Messiah.
PEACELIGHT FROM BETHLEHEM
Today we receive the Peacelight from Bethlehem. Please see the separate flier for more information.
MASS SETTING
Missa Brevis in C, ‘Spatzenmesse’ (KV 220) Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
(1756-1790)
PRESIDENT AND PREACHER The president this morning is Reverend Canon Chris Hollingshurst and the preacher is Reverend Canon Duncan Myers.
THANK YOU
Your support makes a real difference to the ministry and mission of Guildford Cathedral. Thanks to your gifts of time and money we’re proud to open our doors for free, 365 days a year, meeting the needs of both pilgrim and visitor. If you would like to support our work, if you are a member of one of our congregations and have not already done so, please consider joining our Planned Giving Scheme via the Parish Giving Scheme (PGS) and set up a regular donation by direct debit. This is very easy to do over the phone (03330 021 271), using our unique identifier, 170617001. Or via this link https:// https://www.guildford-cathedral.org/support/parish-giving-scheme.
