Join us in the Cathedral for the 9.45am Eucharist – Second Sunday of Advent, 10 December
ADVENT
Advent is a season of expectation and preparation, as the Church prepares to celebrate the coming (adventus) of Christ in his incarnation, and also looks ahead to his final advent as judge at the end of time. We are encouraged to cultivate a sense of ‘alert watchfulness’ although the anticipation of Christmas under commercial pressure makes this quite challenging. In the northern hemisphere, the Advent season falls at the darkest time of the year, and the natural symbols of darkness and light are powerfully at work throughout the four weeks of the Season. We light candles on an Advent wreath in remembrance of faith ancestors who were also watching in anticipation for the coming of the Messiah.
GUILDFORD CATHEDRAL SINGERS
We welcome Guildford Cathedral Singers, directed by John Bawden, and thank them very much for singing our services today.
MASS SETTING
Mass in E Diego de Casseda (1600-1700)
PRESIDENT AND PREACHER
The president this morning is the Venerable Stuart Beake, Acting Dean and the preacher is Reverend Canon Rachel Young
