Highlights:

Church Attendance - The Electoral Roll was renewed by the Parochial Church Council in March 2023 in line with Church Representation Rules and stands at 46 an increase from 43.

Pattern of Worship - Worship on the first Sunday of each month has generally been lay-led by Chris, who puts a lot of time, thought and prayer into the content each month. The second Sunday of the month takes the form of a Benefice Service, led by Rev. Val. The third Sunday is a CW Holy Communion led by Rev Val, followed by refreshments. Daglingworth people are invited to join another church on the fourth Sunday or the Zoom service which is still available regularly. Services are often zoomed from Daglingworth.

This year, Daglingworth hosted the Palm Sunday all-age Communion, after walking from Rous with readings on the way, following a donkey.

Morning Prayer has continued via Zoom Monday 9.00am prayer takes the form of Lectio Divina, focussing on a different short piece of scripture each week.

The benefice weekly Bible Study has also flourished on Zoom, looking at Exodus and John’s gospel. All are welcome at 7.30pm Tuesday’s. The group meets socially for a meal two or three times a year.

There have been four weddings this year, four funerals and one thanksgiving service. There were no Baptisms this year.

Review of the Year - highlights

The PCC has met formally during the past 12 months and has conducted other business via email.

We continue our work with the A Rocha Eco Church Project in response to climate change. Work on developing the wildflower meadow in the churchyard extension continues and Jon Parrott was recently interviewed on Radio Gloucestershire about our bird boxes and their impact.

In June the PCC with the help of Cannon Rev Julie Nelson (co-opted PCC member and Deanery Eco Champion), produced a motion to present to our Deanery Synod which would stop Gloucester Diocese from investing in fossil fuel investments. The motion was accepted by the Deanery and presented to Gloucester Diocesan Synod in December.

In celebration of our late Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2022, we worked alongside the Village Hall committee and Parish Council to provide a celebratory lunch party (free of charge) after the Church service. This event was very well attended and enjoyed by the whole community.

As always, the PCC extends gratitude and thanks to our Rector, the Rev’d Val Thorne, who recently celebrated her tenth year with us, which was marked by a benefice lunch in celebration.
