St Peter, Willersey with Saintbury

The beautiful Church of Saint Peter’s, Willersey with Saintbury is open for visits, prayer and quiet meditation in daylight hours every day.  Our welcoming congregation always draws in visitors and newcomers to our weekly services on Sundays and Wednesdays with a warm spirit of fellowship.

This beautiful, Grade I Listed Cotswold church building dates back to the 11th Century.  It owes its unusual and remarkable cruciform design to one of its principal architects; the Abbots of Evesham used to spend their summers in Willersey and one of the abbots based Saint Peter’s central pillars and ceiling on those of Evesham Abbey (which was demolished at the time of the Reformation). The oldest element of the church is its font, which pre-dates the Norman Conquest. A programme of work, over the last twelve years, has raised the condition of Saint Peter’s to being generally excellent. However, the Churchwardens continue to work with parishioners to raise funds and deliver allN the works needed to complete this vital programme.

St Peter’s six bells are unique, being the only known bells that are in perfect pitch but which have never been tuned, either by chipping or milling. Over 300 years old, they have benefitted from a recent and complete refurbishment, including the restoration and painting of their steel bell frame. Our committed and skilled Tower team have come in the top three in the annual Three Shires Bellringers’ Guild competition in recent years.

Saint Peter’s is a most active church and makes many diverse and impactful contributions to its local community. It has the strongest of links with its Church of England Controlled (CofE) primary school. engages actively, throughout each year, with organisations in the Parish and provides support to parishioners. The church produces the monthly “Church & Village News” which is delivered to every household in the parish. Numerous volunteers support the life of the church.
