About Us

Ruardean Church has been part of the community for over 900 years and continues to play a part in village life and the surrounding  community.

We are part of the Brookdean Benefice -the churches of Ruardean, Drybrook and Lydbrook. Our Sunday morning benefice communion rotates around the three churches. Funerals , baptisms and weddings are held here and we have a beautiful and well kept churchyard. With a recent extension to the churchyard we are now cultivating a natural hedge and a wildlife area. From the churchyard we have spectacular views across the fields to Ludlow and the mountains of south Wales. It's a great place to simply sit and be.

The church building dates from about 1111 AD, and is in the centre of the village. The nave, chancel, tower and spire were added in the 14th. century and a chapel added in 1798.  The church is a Grade 2* listed building.

Just beyond the churchyard are the remains of a Manorial House. It was crenellated in 1310 to become Ruardyn Castle but was largely destroyed by Oliver Cromwell's troops in the English Civil War.
