St Nicholas Church, Hedsor

St Nicholas’ Hedsor is a rural parish, which, although geographically quite large, is sparsely populated, with only some 50 properties within its boundaries. The majority of its regular congregation live just outside the parish boundaries, many of them in Wooburn and the urban area of Bourne End.

St Nicholas’ is a fully independent parish, within the Benefice of Hedsor with Bourne End, having its own Parochial Church Council.

Although it is situated in the heart of a large country estate and is approached over a private road it is not an Estate Church. The church and the churchyard are the property of the Diocese of Oxford.

The church, which is quite small, is situated on high land with stunning views over the Thames Valley. There has been a church on the site since the 12 th century. The church building has a very typical country church exterior belying the stunning Victorian Gothic interior. It was awarded two Architectural prizes for an extension built as part of a restoration carried out for the millennium.

Services are traditional and use Common Worship.

The congregation prides itself on its sense of community and newcomers find themselves quickly absorbed into the community that is St Nicholas’ Hedsor.
