Venue Address
The Church of St John the Apostle, Church Hill, Sheepscombe Stroud, GL6 7RF, United Kingdom
We have probably all attended a Christmas nativity and watched a proud Mary standing amongst the various characters, clutching he baby Jesus. She rarely has any lines to say! The Biblical account of Mary gives a very different picture as she sings and proclaims ancient truths embedded dep in her heart as a young Jewish child. She sings words of Joy, humility, wonder and profound knowledge. This advent we have chosen to use an exceptionally well researched book by Oxford educated author Dr Amy Orr-Ewing, entitled 'Mary's Voice', the daily reflections are insightful and fascinating as we contemplate Advent through the eyes, heart and voice of Mary. In addition to the daily readings, we are offering the chance to meet and "do" advent together. We will take an hour starting at 6pm in St John's church on Friday December 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd. There will be led time, to reflect on the book, to listen to some music, and to pray. All are welcome to join us to just be quiet and listen, or to engage with Amy's offerings. We encourage you to buy the book from Eden Books eden.co.uk or Amazon, as the chief benefit of the Advent course is taking time each day to read and ponder. Don't worry if you can't get along every Friday. We look forward to seeing you if you can come. Paul and Clare Kenchington and Paul and Angie Ryan

St John the Apostle, Sheepscombe

St John's is the Parish Church of Sheepscombe, Gloucestershire and is part of the Beacon Benefice. The building dates to 1820 with various subsequent modifications. Our church meets primarily to worship God, pray together, learn from the bible and encourage each other. We are a friendly welcoming church mostly composed of village residents. We seek to be for everyone in the village. Visitors and those who just want to explore the Christian faith are very welcome. We believe Christianity is just as vital and relevant today as 2000 years ago when Christ was on earth. Do come and try us out!
