We entitled our project “St Peter and St Paul Wisbech : A Church for the Future” because we want everyone in the community to use the building and treasure it for the future. While the building work is carried out we will be busy making sure that more people in the town become involved with the church by organising a programme of activities which includes a schools project, a Summer Festival of concerts and art activities, and a soup kitchen to support the homeless in the winter months. We shall also host exhibitions, build our own intranet and offer tours to help the community learn about the history of our wonderful building. Life will be busy!
The development phase of our project is now complete and we are really hoping that we are awarded the second part of the grant which will allow us to enter the delivery phase in 2021 and see the scaffolding appear!
The schools pilot of the development phase has been a great success and is now entering its third year. Children in two of the town’s schools have been involved in writing news articles alongside one of our local reporters and have visited the church taking photographs and writing sections of a children’s guidebook which we hope will be available online and in the church by the end of 2022.Click here to access the news article.
None of this exciting work would have been possible without the generous support of the National Heritage Lottery Fund and so we say a huge thank you to them and to each and every one of you reading this article who has bought a lottery ticket recently!
