You may remember that owing to the lack of heating at St Mark’s we have been unable to use the church. Usually, at this time of year, the local school children come along to decorate the Christmas tree and hear something of the nativity story. This year, we were so fortunate as to have the use of Tower Hall for our venue and the children only had to come across the road. We split the tree into two halves so that they were able to reach (almost) every branch to place their decorations. They had lots of fun, judging by the smiles and noise! They did an amazing job. If you came along to the Polling Station (Tower Hall again) on Thursday 12th December you would have seen the results of their efforts, because the assembled tree was standing near the entrance in all its finery and twinkling lights. It was so nice to have the children, teachers, playgroup leaders, parents, grand-parents in attendance while the children were placing their carefully hand made decorations in just the right position on the tree. They all enjoyed home made biscuits and some squash (although the adults preferred tea or coffee) and listened attentively as Michele Bradbury, Churchwarden and ALM at St Mark’s told the story of the First Christmas. We are all very grateful to those who contributed to such a joyous village and seasonal event. It would be fantastic if lots of people could attend the Carols Round The Crib this year at 4pm on Christmas Eve and really fill Tower Hall. We would love to see you all there, to hear the nativity story in full and to joyfully sing our favourite carols. Refreshments afterwards should include mulled wine, non-alcoholic warm fruit punch, tea, coffee and hot chocolate (yes marshmallows too!), plus lots of tasty nibbles. Don’t forget the time 4pm and watch out for posters around the village, in case you’re not sure just where Tower Hall really is.
